In order to build houses in Wisconsin, or even perform any work on them that requires a building permit you need BOTH the Dwelling Contractor Certification for your business and the Dwelling Contractor Qualifier Certification for at least one owner, partner, or employee of your firm. Each of these credentials will have a different ID number and a different expiration date.
Here are the basic steps to obtain your Dwelling Contractor Qualifier Certification:
1.) Attend 12-hours of approved qualifier training education and pass the exam given with that education. To view the Wisconsin Contractors approved course, click here.
2.) Provide an application form with a $15 fee application fee and a $30 two-year certification fee.
3.) Obtain 12-hours of continuing education over the two-year educational cycle. (Note: Once you pass the 12-hours of initial qualifying education, you will also need to take 12 additional hours prior to your renewal.
